The Houston Texans have started training camp and the OL will be highlighted. Where does Bill O’Brien like Tytus Howard line up at? Let’s look.

The Houston Texans have started training camp and there will be a multitude of storylines that we will follow as this team prepares to start up the 2019 season.  There are a lot of ongoing position battles and the offensive line will certainly be the focus within this training camp.

That unit was among the weakest in terms of production last season and the Houston Texans have made significant investments to improve the efficiencies of such a vital group of players to protect Deshaun Watson.

Seantrel Henderson will be returning back to the team on a one-year deal while signing veteran tackle Matt Kalil in the same fashion as well.  It will be good to see those guys out there and I’m hopeful that they will make an immediate impact in regard to the production of the offensive line as a whole.

In addition, the Houston Texans also put some draft capital into the unit as well.  They invested their first-round pick this season into Alabama State’s Tytus Howard, the versatile offensive lineman that will be a valuable asset to this team.

They also used one of their two second-round picks on Northern Illinois’ Max Scharping, another big bruiser that has the goods to pass protect.

The Houston Texans will be doing a ton of tinkering during training camp and the latest venture involving Howard has yielded results that Bill O’Brien has been proud of so far.

Here’s the latest via the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson:

This news isn’t surprising as the 6-foot-7, 317-pound Howard has played just about every position — including quarterback — on the field throughout his career up until the pros.  Knowing that Howard could step in and take on any position when called upon is certainly a positive trait to have.

Pro Football Focus had him graded out at a solid 77.6 through 659 snaps in 2018.  He’s regarded as an above-average pass/run blocker that avoids the negative blocks and gets a high percentage

of positive ones.

He allowed just 11 pressures in his senior season with ASU that included six QB hurries, four QB hits and one sack.

This news coming out of training camp is remarkable and I’m anxious to see what else is in store

for the big fella.

Senio Kelemete will be the presumptive starter at left guard when it’s all said and done but hearing this news does put an accentuation on Howard’s value.

Considering the fact the team could’ve been able to nab Jonah Williams or Andre Dillard if they would’ve traded up for those guys, they felt that Howard was the best fit and he’s looking good so far.

Williams actually sustained a season-ending injury to his left shoulder during minicamp so the Houston Texans missed the bullet on that one, especially if they would’ve traded up for him.

Next. The position Akins sees himself playing outside of a tight end. dark

I’m sure we’re all rooting for him to pan out because of the notable investment made in his services.

Let’s keep those eyes peeled!
