The Houston Texans have made a swirl of changes this past offseason to compete. Where do the Las Vegas oddsmakers have their win total for 2019? Look.

It’s more offseason talk for the Houston Texans as they now transition to their mandatory workout portion of their organized team activities (OTAs).  It will be a highly-contested battle for 53 contested spots and there are certainly many of them up for grabs.

Of course, guys named J.J. Watt, DeAndre Hopkins, Deshaun Watson and a host of many others are a lock to have one of those spots but it’s about those 20 undrafted free agents the Houston Texans have signed who will be fighting for the right to don the accentuated colors of the Deep Steel Blue.

I’m hoping to see a success story — or two — of one of those guys beating the odds to make this roster because I’ve always admired individuals who know how to face adversity head-on and still win.  These 20 gentlemen are no stranger to that and we’ll be seeing more of this once we get to training camp in July.

But as the season gets ever closer with the commencement within the next three months or so, what we have in mind is how many wins will this team be able to get in 2019 and will it be enough for yet their fifth playoff berth over the past six seasons?

It’s going to be tough as they’ll be facing nine teams with a winning record in 2018 as opposed to last season where the majority of the schedule involved the team facing weaker competition at least on paper.

But you know what?  That’s why you have to play the games because the Houston Texans were challenged immensely throughout 2018 and still came out as winners of the AFC South accompanied by an 11-5 record.

It won’t be the same ride this season as the NFL continues its stride toward more parity among opponents and 2019 will be none the exception.

So where do the Las Vegas oddsmakers have the Houston Texans projected win total for 2019?

According to Pro Football Focus, who wrote a terrific article on the Las Vegas oddsmakers as well

More from House of Houston

as the fantasy outlook, has mentioned — via the DraftKings sportsbook — that the Houston Texans will have the largest win drop-off total among all 32 NFL teams.

Vegas has their projected win total around 8.5 games for 2019 to which is right about where I have them as well.

I projected 12-4 for 2018 and I’m going with 9-7 in 2019.  Although nine wins is still considered a success in today’s NFL, with as competitive as this division is with a rejuvenated Andrew Luck coupled with a young/hungry supporting cast as well as Nick Foles taking the reigns of what many had regarded a Super Bowl-caliber team, there’s no guarantees that nine wins will get one in.

It’s tough to admit the Houston Texans fate but it’s likely true.  I’m hoping that they prove me wrong…
