Houston Astros: Three reasons why a rivalry with the Red Sox is brewing
The Houston Astros took two out of three games against the Red Sox this past weekend. Could there be a rivalry brewing? Here are three reasons as to why.
With the Houston Astros taking two-of-three from the Boston Red Sox, a statement was made by the team that they were the biggest threat to the Red Sox’s quest to repeat as World Series champions. For the Houston Astros fans, the one thing that could propel this team to a title is a rivalry with the Red Sox.
Well Houston Astros fans, I truly feel that this weekend was a successful one for us. Okay, so we didn’t get the sweep like we hoped we would, but still, taking a series win in Boston was a big statement to the Red Sox in that the Houston Astros won’t forget what happened last year and that they’re ticked off.
While we will have to wait until Friday to continue the season series with the Red Sox, it’s times like these that we can appreciate the effort our team gave. Sure, it’s unfortunate that we are dealing with key injuries to Jose Altuve, Aledmys Diaz, and now George Springer (hopefully not too serious after being considered day-to-day), but we have a team that is red hot and intent on taking it back.
This was a series that was covered nationally. On Friday night, we had MLB Network broadcast the game while FOX took over Saturday. Those were two big wins for us of 3-1 and 7-3. What the nation who tuned in saw was a Houston Astros team revamped and ready for more success. What people watched was a team that jumped on a Red Sox team that was playing red hot entering the weekend. And while the Houston Astros did play sloppy on Sunday despite losing 4-3, the series win was vital.
However, at the end of the day, nothing changes as far as who holds the crown. It’s one thing to win a regular season series. It’s another to do it in the postseason. As of right now, the Red Sox are the World Series champions and the Houston Astros have the best record in the American League. But both teams are 1-1 in their playoff history. While a potential trilogy is possible, one thing is certainly starting to become a reality is that there is a rivalry developing between these two teams and that is good for us and baseball.
