In perhaps the greatest era in Houston Sports history, fans have a right to be proud of the recent achievements. Here are the pros and cons of a local fan.

Houston Sports fans — I may be going on a limb in writing this entry at this point. Yes, there were some entries on this website that I look back and wonder what my thought process was and did it make sense at the time. I haven’t written an entry in a while not because I was afraid to. But rather because it’s more than just about opinions these days on entries. That doesn’t mean there were times when I wanted to express my thoughts about the current status of where our city is in sports in general.

I have to credit my brother on this one because while he’s had to deal with me being frustrated over losses like the Houston Rockets had Tuesday night, he’s made me think about the silver linings, which I’ll admit hasn’t been easy. But I think all of us would agree that this is the best era in Houston Sports history. We have three teams with championship potential competing on a yearly basis and how many teams could say that. We’ve been to the Western Conference Finals and ALCS twice and won a World Series. We’ve had MVPs and record-breaking seasons. We even have a quarterback for crying out loud. So in hindsight, this is truly been a remarkable era that we should be proud of and we look to build on that with more success.

But all the while, there are some pros and cons of being a fan at this stage. Right now, we have an Astros team that, despite struggling early on, is looking to build off an 18-12 March-April campaign in hopes of taking it back. The Texans made some solid moves at the NFL Draft that look to give us a chance to compete for a Super Bowl one of these days. As for the Rockets, well they’re down 2-0 to the Warriors. But the series is far from over. Things just have to go right for us in order to win.

Life seems great to be a fan. But it can sometimes cause emotional distress if we put too much into our daily lives surrounding our sadness with a loss and happiness with a win. But as I’ve learned over recent years, we need to enjoy it while we can because there might never be another era like this in the future.

So from what I’ve seen from us as fans, these are the pros and cons of being a fan in the greatest era in Houston Sports history. I’ll start with the cons just to get it out of the way.
