Houston Texans Rumors: Complete seven round mock draft 4.0
By T.A. Mock
Another area of weakness on the Houston Texans roster heading into the 2018 offseason, the first, of course, being offensive line, was the secondary. There were plenty of holes last year and the team was slated to lose Tyrann Mathieu and Kareem Jackson.
Mathieu and Jackson both wound up leaving in free agency and the Texans brought in Bradley Roby, Tashaun Gipson, and Briean Boddy-Calhoun to help replace them. In this scenario, they also added Byron Murphy at corner but after the surprising retirement of Andre Hal, the Texans need a third safety to go with Gipson and Justin Reid.
That’s where Amani Hooker can come into play in the third round. Hooker was a very, very good player for an incredibly solid Iowa defense. He plays with great ball skills and a strong physicality that have created quite the highlight tape.
Hooker plays on another level with his instincts for the game and the way he sees the field. He has some limitations but that should be able to be schemed around, especially with Reid and Gipson as the primary guys. Additionally, he has the size and skills to shut down elite tight ends which is always a plus. Hooker would make this safety group one of the best in the league.
