Houston Texans Rumors: 3 players and mistakes to avoid in the NFL Draft
By T.A. Mock
The Houston Texans are a strong team that needs help in key areas to truly contend. They need to avoid these 3 players and mistakes in order to do so.
The new league year for the NFL began a week ago and teams were able to start negotiating with free agents. A couple of days later, teams were then able to officially sign deals with said free agents. The Houston Texans felt the effects of this, both positively and negatively.
Within hours of the legal tampering period opening up, the Texans fell victim to other team’s sniping when they lost Tyrann Mathieu to the Chiefs and Kareem Jackson to the Broncos. The Honey Badger brought swagger and leadership to the defense when they needed it and Jackson’s chess piece ability help the team overcome numerous injuries. Their losses will be felt.
In an effort to mitigate the hurt from losing those two players, the Houston Texans went out and added a trio of players in the secondary. Tashaun Gipson was a salary cap casualty and should replace Mathieu nicely. Bradley Roby is a former Broncos first round pick who still has immense potential. Briean Boddy-Calhoun is a versatile defender who will provide nice depth.
This trio definitely bolsters a weak point on the roster but the team still has some work to do. There are players still out on the free agent market that could help out, there are guys who could be had through trade that could help, and there are guys in the draft that can help.
Brian Gaine and the rest of the Houston Texans brass will need to decipher who those players are because there are also players who won’t be able to help and players who would be nice adds but aren’t necessary. So, let’s take a look at three players/mistakes the Texans need to avoid in the upcoming NFL draft.
