Houston Texans Rumors: 4 options to be Deshaun Watson’s backup QB

The final option on this list is a name you might be very familiar with, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick was brought in for the 2014 season to be the team’s starting quarterback after they moved on from Matt Schaub. Fitzpatrick performed fairly well and led the team to a 9-7 record overall.

He battled against Ryan Mallet and Case Keenum for playing time and the Houston Texans and O’Brien deemed him the best option for the job. However, his season in 2014 was his only one in Houston and he moved on to the Jets for a couple years before spending the past two years with the Buccaneers the last two seasons.
Fitzpatrick has channeled some serious FitzMagic the past two seasons in Tampa Bay in relief of Jameis Winston or even instead of Winston in some cases. There were points in the 2018 season where Fitzpatrick looked like a better option at quarterback than Winston.
Fitzpatrick is hitting the open market again this offseason and a return to the Houston Texans could be a good option and fit for him. Teams are unlikely to few him as a starter so returning to a team where he knows the system and has had success could be a very good option.
The Houston Texans need a backup quarterback that is capable of stepping in and playing decent football if watching has to miss a series or a game or two. These four guys are viable options, which one would you like to see hold a clipboard in a Texans uniform?
