Colin Kaepernick, UFA

Some of you may balk at this idea and quit reading right here. That’s okay, that’s your prerogative. However, Colin Kaepernick needs to be truly considered by NFL teams to get back into the game of football. He just settled with the NFL on his grievance claim, likely for a huge number, and that may be his ticket back into play professional football.

Kaep and Watson actually have similar size and a similar skill set that he could actually be a viable option to be Watson’s backup. Kaep was never really a truly elite quarterback for the 49ers. He was very good and guided them to a Super Bowl but he never crossed that threshold to being elite.

Also. Three prospects to target if Clowney hits the open market. light

HIs time with the 49ers ended poorly as the team struggled a lot right as the spotlight on Kaep was rising for his kneeling protest. He ended up losing the starting job and the team cut him after the season was over and that was in 2016.

So, you could also make the argument made against Weeden against Kaep. He hasn’t taken a snap in the NFL in practice, let alone a game, since 2016. So, there is some concern about what his potential could be. However, if we’re gambling on guys that haven’t thrown in years, I’d rather have Kaepernick backing up Watson than Weeden.
