The Houston Texans only have one QB on their roster in eshaun Watson. A quality backup can make or break a team, here are four options to be the backup QB.

The Houston Texans have finally found their franchise quarterback in Deshaun Watson. They gave up a ton to get him because they needed to trade away Brock Osweiler and trade up in the 2017 draft to get him. But, it’s been well worth it.

Through 23 career games, Watson has thrown for 5,864 yards on a 66.4% completion rate. He’s also tossed 45 touchdowns during that time to just 17 interceptions. That number is a little high but he got that issue under control as this past season progressed. He’s also been sacked an insane 81 times in those 23 games.

The unfortunate part is that he has only played 23 games. In his rookie season, he tore his ACL after the first seven games of the season. The team was just beginning to hit their stride when this happened and the season torpedoed after his injury because there wasn’t a viable option behind him.

Tom Savage, T.J. Yates, and Taylor Heinicke all struggled immensely in relief of Watson and the team won one game in his absence. Typically, when a team doesn’t do well, there is a light at the end of the tunnel because it means a high draft pick but the Houston Texans traded their’s so, there was no silver lining.

For the 2018 season, Watson was slated to come back but they still needed to address the backup QB job. They signed Brandon Weeden because of his experience in the system but he is now a free agent so, the team needs to bring in someone to back up Watson and give the Houston Texans a fighting chance if he has to miss a game or two in 2019. Let’s take a look at some options.
