Houston Astros: 3 reasons Marwin Gonzalez’s WS homer is best in franchise history
Reason #3: A look into the future
The Aftermath
We all know what the homer meant for us as fans to this franchise. Without the homer, Game 2 does not become an instant classic that led to us winning our first ever World Series game. If Marwin doesn’t hit the homer, we’re looking at being down 2-0 with the odds of a comeback not on our side.
Chances are, we would continue to deal with the heartbreak that would be given to us if we lost

the series. But more importantly, the momentum is not with us as we ended up winning Game 3 in convincing fashion. Despite dropping Game 4, the Houston Astros won the historic Game 5, which ultimately proved as the best game of the series. Long story short, the Houston Astros won it all and Marwin was a big reason as to why.
Of course, this homer had a negative effect on the Dodgers as well as they were never quite the same after that defining moment. Despite making the World Series last season again, they lost in five games while Jansen gave up even more clutch homers in the process.
In Conclusion
The news of Marwin’s departure to the Twins is unfortunate but part of life. Sure the Houston Astros will look to win the World Series again without his presence. But make no mistake about it, Gonzalez will be an Astro for life even if he’s up in the Twin Cities. Considering that the Astros have plans for a Hall of Fame in their future, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gonzalez become a part of the club.
To the Minnesota fans, we do hope Marwin shows you why he was a good fit for y’all. Of course, we have aspirations to beat y’all when he’s on your side.
But take good care and we wish you luck.
To Marwin: thank you for becoming a true Houston icon to our fans and for giving us some exemplary moments. Thank you for being part of the Astro family, to which you will always be a part of. And of course, thank you for giving Houston hope and showing everyone why we were and still #HoustonStrong.
We wish you all the best in Minnesota.
