What Terrence Jones adds to the Rockets in his return
The other name the Houston Rockets signed is one you’re probably familiar with. Terrence Jones played for the Rockets for his first four seasons in the NBA. He quickly integrated himself into the rotation back then and became a key player in Houston.

After his four years in Houston, he hit the open market and signed with the Pelicans. He played a considerable amount for them before the Bucks acquired him off of the waiver wire. Things did not go well for Jones in Milwaukee and he was cut just days later and he has been in the G-League ever since.
During his time with the Rockets, the Kentucky product was working on expanding his game and becoming a stretch 4. He was never really able to fully accomplish that but he was still a solid player. He played some good hustle defense and was aggressive on the boards.
Since then, Jones has continued to work on his game and expand it to become what the NBA wants in their big men, especially ones that are 6’9″. He has played very well in his time with Grand Rapids. He’s still grabbing boards at a good rate and playing solid defense. The best part, however, is that he is now shooting 38% from three which is far better than he ever did before.
My colleague Brian Patterson artfully analyzed the Jones signing and broke down why he could be around for much longer than the 10 days his contract is currently for. The Rockets could use some solid, floor stretching frontcourt depth and Jones could potentially provide that.
What do you think of the Houston Rockets signings? Do you they’re merely bodies to reach the league minimum or do you think they will be able to contribute down the line? Let us know below in a comment!
