Why have people spent more time paying attention to watching the NBA more so than MLB? According to this article by John Collins, the NBA is “a more individualized sport” that has managed to use their leading personalities very well. You look around and LeBron James producing TV specials or Kevin Durant responding to haters on Twitter. The younger generation has totally bought into that.
Baseball is behind as far as promoting it’s players and Bregman is willing to step up to the plate. Unless you don’t spend time watching videos on YouTube, I suggest people take the time to check out Alex Bregman’s YouTube channel. This is Bregman’s way of marketing himself and showing off his personality. But it isn’t just about baseball. It’s also about life off the field as well.
We’ve seen videos of the Houston Astros star giving out a $500 tip to a waitress who had her car broken into, pranking little leaguers as a home plate umpire, giving out iPads to kids with autism, and even crashing a wedding. Then, of course, perhaps the most intriguing video is when Bregman, Jake Marisnick, and a few other MLB players get together to discuss what baseball can do to fix the problems they deal with along with Alex Rodriguez.
Bregman’s YouTube channel has over 70,000 subscribers. That’s saying a lot for a guy who is on the cusp of being great. But he can have more people tune in to what’s happening if MLB is willing and able to work with him and have other players show off themselves. It will be tough to possibly catch the NBA or NFL for the time being.

Yet, baseball can learn from the other leagues to become successful in marketing. Having Bregman doing this not only changes the way people look at baseball players off the field. But it also allows fans to get access to things that maybe no other athlete in any sport does in their time off.
Major League Baseball needs people with personality and they’ll have a bonus with Bregman should he continue to improve and get better. Bregman’s offseasons surgery should heal before March and then, he’ll be set to go. However, there is an element that Bregman brings to the table that baseball lacks at this point.
