Houston Texans Rumors: 5 players to target in free agency this offseason

Rodger Saffold, G, Los Angeles Rams

Rodger Saffold has been a mainstay along the Rams offensive line since they drafted him in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft out of Indiana. They drafted him to be their left tackle and, unfortunately, it didn’t pan out for him there.

The Rams started to move him around during the 2013 season and he finally landed at guard. He originally signed a lucrative contract the Raiders but the deal was scrapped and he ended back with the rams on a five year deal for less money.

Saffold became an excellent left guard the past five seasons and will be looking to cash in one more time. He appears to be ready to take less money to stay in Los Angeles with the Rams. However, the Houston Texans could throw enough money his way to pull him to Houston.

Saffold is a very good guard and he, alongside Zach Fulton, could form a massive, formidable guard duo to help shore up the Texans offensive line. The Texans need to protect Watson better and inking Saffold would help do that.

Another option: Ted Karras, G, New England Patriots

Another option the Houston Texans could pursue is Ted Karras from the Patriots. Signing Karras could be tricky because he is a restricted free agent but, as it stands, he is blocked by two very good guards in New England.

Karras played well in reserve/spot start duty and the Texans could be lured by the possibility of him as a starter on their offensive line. Signing Karras to a deal that the Patriots wouldn’t match could be a risky move but one that could pay dividends very early.
