Prospect Development

The final thing to watch with the Houston Astros this Spring Training is how the team’s top prospects continue to develop. The Astros have had one of the top farm systems in all of baseball for a long, long time now.

Top prospects have flooded the major leagues and truly changed this team. Springer, Correa, and Bregman all fit that mold and this team would be vastly different without them. Now, the next crop of top prospects is just about ready to have their impact felt.

Kyle Tucker and Forrest Whitley are the best of those prospects who are on the verge of securing a major league roster spot. Tucker had his first cup of tea last year but struggled a lot and finished the year in the minors. Whitley might’ve had his first shot as well if it weren’t for an injury and a suspension.

This year, they’re coming into Spring Training hoping to break the roster for the start of the season. Tucker probably has a better shot than Whitley but they will both likely be up by the end season anyways. Other prospects that could be fighting for a spot are guys like James, Corbin Martin, Cionel Perez, and Rogelio Armenteros.

Seeing how these prospects have continued to develop will be extremely important for the Houston Astros this Spring Training. Getting a good gauge on this will help the team determine roster spots and needs moving forward.

I, for one, am very excited baseball is back and Spring Training is underway. Spring Training games begin later this week and that will be a great litmus test to see where the team is at so far in 2019.
