Houston Astros Rumors: Four key storylines to follow in Spring Training
By T.A. Mock
The Houston Astros are getting deep into Spring Training. Exhibition games are about to commence so, here are four storylines to follow in the coming weeks.
The Houston Astros are kicking back in West Palm Beach, Florida playing baseball and getting that incredible team chemistry back in order. Pitchers and catchers have been required to be back for about a week and position players have been back for a little bit of a shorter time period than that.
It’s been nice to see the new faces (Michael Brantley, Aledyms Diaz, Robinson Chirinos, and Wade Miley) in Astros gear for the first time. It’s also been nice to see guys who struggled with injury last year (Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa, and George Springer) out there running around, playing the game again.
There has already been a lot of talk about who is going to play where, who is going to play how many positions, and things like that. The Astros love to utilize Spring Training as a time to experiment and see how much more versatility they can add to the roster.
Diaz appears slated to take over Marwin Gonzalez‘s old role and play all over the infield and in the corner outfield spots. Yuli Gurriel will likely see more time moving around the diamond as well. Versatility is key to the Houston Astros depth and something they love to utilize.
Those storylines were to be expected coming into Spring Training. We knew that Diaz would have that MarGo role. We knew Yuli was going to move around the infield. But, there is a lot of other stuff the team is working on right now as well. So, let’s take a look at four storylines to follow throughout the coming weeks of Spring Training.
