Jamie Sharper was a hot player after the 2001 season with the Baltimore Ravens. In 2000, Sharper played an integral role in the Ravens’ Super Bowl campaign. This included a game-clinching interception to send them to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately wound up beating the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV.

The Texans drafted Sharper in the expansion draft following that 2001 season and was one of the hottest, biggest names moving to Houston for that 2002 inaugural season. Sharper immediately took over the middle linebacker spot for the Texans and didn’t disappoint.

During his short, three-season tenure with the Texans, there wasn’t much more the team could have asked of Sharper. He ranked third in the league in total tackles from 2002 to 2004 with 436, only falling behind Donnie Edwards and Zach Thomas.

Furthermore, he actually led the league in 2003 with 164 total tackles. Sharper was an excellent defender for the Texans for his three years in Houston. He was without a doubt, the first ‘great’ defender the team ever had, even if it was only for a short time.
