Houston Texans: Top 30 players in franchise history
By T.A. Mock
Jason Babin was selected 27th overall in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Texans. He went to a smaller school in Western Michigan. Babin was actually the most highly drafted player from that MAC school until Corey Davis was selected No. 5 overall in 2017 by the Tennessee Titans.
Babin was very athletic and productive coming out of WMU and was slated for some big playing time as a rookie. He started all 16 games as a rookie and had arguably one of his best three seasons of his career.
He played a combination of linebacker and defensive end and collected four sacks, 62 tackles, five passes deflected and two fumble recoveries. By all means, it was a very productive season that gave the fans, and team alike, hope that they had a defensive ace in the making.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as well in 2005. While he remained in the rotation, Babin fell out of the starting lineup for most of the season. He was still fairly productive in his rotational role, garnering nine sacks in 24 games. Babin went on to have some success after his tenure in Houston including two Pro Bowls, one in Tennessee and one in with the Philadelphia Eagles.
