Houston Texans: Top 30 players in franchise history
By T.A. Mock
Honestly, who else?
You cannot make a great Texans players list and have anyone else at No. 1. Andre Johnson was great and will be enshrined in Canton in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day, but he cannot beat out J.J. Watt as the best Texan to ever do it.
So many people were so angry when the team drafted a “slow white guy” in 2011. They had cases to be made for other players after the 2011 regular season. However, all bets were off when the Cincinnati Bengals came to town for the 2011 Wild Card round in the AFC Playoffs. Watt had a pick-six that sealed the game and his national, no, international fame.
Watt has done several things that literally no else has ever done on a football field. He and Lawrence Taylor the only players to ever win three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. Watt is the only player to ever record 20+ sacks in a season twice. He is also a five-time Pro Bowler and a five-time First Team All-Pro.
He will go down as one of the best defensive players to ever play the game. That was before he lost almost two full seasons to injury. He came back and was his normal self in 2018, suggesting his legacy will only continue to grow.
Watt has 92 career sacks and will likely get over 100 in 2019. He also almost has countless tackles for loss (number varies depending on the source). He also has 51 batted passes, one interception (and another in the playoffs), 22 forced fumbles, 13 fumble recoveries and six touchdowns (three defensive, one in the playoffs and three offensive). He is one of the greatest football players of all time.
