Houston Rockets Rumors: 5 potential additions from the buyout market
By T.A. Mock
Wesley Matthews, SG, New York Knicks
In the unexpected insanity that ensued days before the trade deadline, the Knicks sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavericks for Dennis Smith Jr, DeAndre Jordan, and Wesley Matthews. The trade shook the NBA world.
For the Knicks, DSJ was the big return while Jordan and Matthews just helped the salaries work. Jordan appears to be involved in the Knicks short-term plans for this season while Matthews does not. He is expected to be bought out sooner rather than later.

Once Matthews is officially bought out, he is going to be a highly sought after commodity due to what he brings to the court at the minuscule price tag he will come at. If the Houston Rockets want him, they’ll have to battle the Warriors, Raptors, Thunder, and Pacers for his services, likely among other suitors.
Matthews is a standout 3-and-D player that will be plug-and-play for nearly every contending team. He is a career 38%+ three-point shooter that can also slash to the basket on occasion. His defensive counting stats aren’t impressive but he is capable of locking down opponents throughout the entirety of a game.
He’s expected to sign with the Pacers but, he would be foolish not to talk to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are better poised for a championship run than the Pacers, especially after Victor Oladipo‘s gruesome injury. The Rockets could use a guy of his caliber off of the bench, maybe even in the starting lineup.
