Houston Rockets Rumors: 5 potential additions from the buyout market
By T.A. Mock
JR Smith, SG, Cleveland Cavaliers
Remember Carmelo Anthony? The supposed final piece to the puzzle of the 2018-19 Houston Rockets that was going to push them over the edge offensively to take down the Warriors and anyone else in their path?
Do you also remember how that rapidly imploded in the Rockets’ face and Melo remained on the roster until last week when he was finally traded away? JR Smith and the Cavaliers can tell a nearly identical story.
Smith hasn’t touched a court since mid-November and won’t ever do it for Cleveland again. The veteran just doesn’t seem himself as a part of the team’s plan and vision as they are finally committing to a rebuild. However, they weren’t able to find a trade partner for him so, he is definitely a buyout candidate.
The Rockets have been linked to Smith in the past as he is capable of providing a ton of offensive firepower in a short amount of time. Something the Rockets were desperately needing a while back. This is less of a need now but Smith could still be an asset in Houston.
He still has the same offensive chops that once made him appealing. He knows how to successfully come off the bench as he is a perennial sixth man of the year contender. He also has a playoff pedigree that is always valuable. Smith could be a solid addition if he is indeed bought out.
