Houston Astros Rumors: Three things Wade Miley brings to the rotation
By T.A. Mock
An eye on a continued resurgence
Miley’s struggles as an Oriole are well documented. He just couldn’t find his stuff in Baltimore and hopped back and forth between the big leagues and the minors. After the 2017 season was over, it was a reasonable thought that he may never pitch in the bigs again.
Then, he reinvented himself. We explored this a little bit in the previous slide but he and the Brewers did for him what the Houston Astros have done for a lot of guys. Morton, specifically, comes to mind a similar addition. Not many saw it as a high upside move at the time but Brent Strom and the Houston Astros worked their magic and the rest is history.

Morton and Miley are very different pitchers but the impact and evolution could be similar. Fortunately, the Brewers already started along this process with Miley and the Astros just get to continue it. They can keep retooling his pitch arsenal and tweak his delivery on his curveball.
If they’re able to do this, Miley could easily replicate the success he had with the Brewers in 2018. Hopefully, he could do it over a larger usage rate in 2019. Morton was embattled with injuries throughout his career and the Houston Astros found a way to keep him healthy for the most part. Miley dealt with a couple more major injuries in 2018 and missed significant time. Hopefully, the Astros will be able to do the same with Miley and keep him in the rotation for the duration of the year.
Miley is far from a perfect or complete pitcher and there is some risk to signing him but there is some upside. The Brewers found a way to maximize Miley last year. The Houston Astros should be the perfect team to continue to maximize his talent to get the most out of him.
We here at House of Houston believe the signing of Wade Miley to be an excellent one for the Houston Astros even it if lacks star power. What do you think of the deal? Who else do you think the Astros should sign this offseason if anyone?
