Reason #3: The ability for the Texans to address their needs now

Since cornerback is a need for this team, I think the Houston Texans should make a phone call to the Detroit Lions and ask what they want for Darius Slay Jr. This would be the equivalent of the Peters or Talib trade. They acquired some of the best cornerbacks in football for just draft picks.

Darius Slay is one of the best cornerbacks in football but he gets overlooked often because he plays in Detroit.

football and earned three interceptions and 43 tackles.  This was amid his terrific 2017 campaign where he reeled in eight interceptions and 60 tackles.

If one could trade for Slay, draft a young CB with speed, ensure Colvin returns to full health and re-sign Kareem Jackson?  I think you’d be in ship-shape.

One of the positions that is low-key hole on this team is running back. Sure, you’ve got a young guy like D’Onta Foreman in the backfield. But will he ever live up to his full potential because of the Achilles injury he sustained at the end of the 2017? Also, is Lamar Miller your franchise back? That’s the kind of stuff you have to think about.

There’s need to spend money on a RB in free agency anymore — in recent years, the draft has provided teams with young studs in the mid-rounds. The Houston Texans should target a guy like Bennie Snell Jr., Justice Hill or Bryce Love to potentially fill Miller’s shoes if he gets cut.

Sure, 2018 was a notable one for Gaine but 2019 will be- the defining off season in his young tenure as the general manager for the Houston Texans.

A talented yet young QB on his rookie deal is one of the best situations to have in football because you either have the choice to build for the future or go all-in on one season and build a championship-contending team with such an important piece already in place.

Gaine has that choice — will he be patient and risk the window closing, or will he go all-in on 2019 with the hopes of delivering a championship to Houston?

I implore you Gaine — channel your inner-Daryl Morey and Jeff Luhnow and make it happen.
