Rock Ya-Sin, CB, Temple

As pointed out previously, cornerback is another extreme area of need for the Houston Texans this offseason. Johnathan Joseph is far beyond his prime, Kevin Johnson has been a bust, Aaron Colvin is a question mark after an injury-plagued season, and Kareem Jackson may or may not be returning since he hits the open market in just a few short weeks.

So, the team needs to address the cornerback position early and often in the draft, especially since there aren’t many solid options in free agency. Cornerback has several top options in the draft that will go in the top 40 picks but then there is a severe drop off in plug-and-play talent. However, Rock Ya-Sin has skyrocketed up draft boards and his performance at the Senior Bowl helped back that up.

More from House of Houston

Ya-Sin came into the Senior Bowl smaller than advertised but is still about 6’0″ and 190 lbs which is more than playable at corner in the NFL. He, like many others on this list, is an exceptional athlete with great speed and reactions. He has tremendous work ethic that has gotten him into the first round conversation (more likely second round) without much football experience.

There is definitely some projection to his game, don’t get me wrong, but if the Houston Texans could snag him in round two, he could be a plug-and-play guy that could learn from the several veterans the Texans have on defense. They could pair him with either Jackson or Joseph to help him along the way.

Ya-Sin has a natural feel for the football and has good ball skills that are developing rapidly. He can make plays on the ball as it approaches whether it be an interception or a pass defended. He battled Deebo Samuel, one of the best receiving prospects this year, well and one some one-on-one’s that defenders aren’t supposed to win. He is physical and can press. All of these things have the potential of him becoming a top corner in the league.

These five guys would all fill holes for the Houston Texans. They all balled out at the Senior Bowl and could definitely help the team out. Which one would you most like to see in a Texans uniform?
