Houston Texans Rumors: 5 Senior Bowl prospects to consider drafting
By T.A. Mock
Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State
You want to know the NFL’s worst kept secret? Well, you actually probably already know it. The Houston Texans offensive line is one of the worst and the league and has been for a couple of years now. They play horrendous football the majority of the time which is the opposite of ideal with a young, franchise quarterback like Watson.
Starting the 2018 season, the Texans sported four new starters along that offensive line and there should be a similar change to start the 2019 season whether it be through the draft or through free agency. There weren’t many standout offensive line prospects at the Senior Bowl this year but there was one and that man is Andre Dillard from Washington State.
I know, whoa, whoa, whoa. Offensive linemen don’t translate well from that high octane air raid offensive that guys like Mike Leach run. However, Dillard is a different animal. He’s showed sound fundamentals and good technique for several years at Washington State and should have too much trouble transitioning to the NFL’s style of play.
Dillard is a great athlete that is quick out of his stance in both pass sets and run blocking which is always a good thing and will translate to the NFL where defenders are faster off of the ball. Dillard’s athleticism is also a plus for the Houston Texans because of Watson and his style of play. Dillard has a shot to be a great zone blocking left tackle which is perfect for this team.
Depending on who you ask, Dillard could be anywhere from the first tackle off of the board to a third-round pick. With the scheme fit, I could see this being a great selection for the Texans in round one and he could turn into a similar player to Duane Brown who the Texans drafted in a similar range.
