The Houston Texans have several spots they could target in the first round of the NFL draft. Here’s why they should prioritize corner over other positions, specifically offensive line.

Before the pitchforks get drawn out and I get crucified, let me explain the sentiment that the Houston Texans need to target a cornerback in the first round over the offensive line. Yes, the offensive line is the most massive problem on the roster but there are more factors to drafting than that.

Building a team through the draft is a tricky process. If it were easy, there wouldn’t be any bad teams in the NFL and teams wouldn’t keep recycling the same guys through front offices and coaching staffs. There are so many aspects to consider including those teams can’t control like what a player is going to do on their part.

Another thing teams need to do is evaluate team need with draft supply. Figuring out how deep the draft is at certain positions versus others and where that depth lies, which rounds have depth at which positions. That’s where the basis of this argument begins.

Yes, the offensive line is a huge need for the Houston Texans but the draft is actually fairly deep along the offensive line without a consensus top prospect, which is a good thing for the Texans. Cornerback, on the other hand, is not nearly as deep and is also a major need for the Texans.

This obviously isn’t ideal for the Houston Texans to have sacrifice on along the offensive line but they have two second round picks where they should be able to get similarly talented guys to where they would at 23rd overall. Let’s dig in a little deeper.
