The Houston Rockets continue this roller coaster of a season with the incredible play of James Harden and key injuries. But for the future, the Rockets should consider adding Gordon Hayward to their roster.

After Game 7’s heartbreaking loss to the Golden State Warriors, the Houston Rockets had high expectations entering this season with championship expectations. With James Harden coming off an MVP season and Chris Paul fresh off his best year in which he quarterbacked the Rockets backcourt to 65 wins, it seemed fitting that Houston would be ready to take the crown as NBA champions soon.

Well, so far, this season has been troubling, to say the least. The Rockets got off to a horrible start going 11-14. Carmelo Anthony‘s presence with the Rockets couldn’t get them going and he was just traded to the Bulls. Yes, there were suspensions to key players and now, the Rockets are dealing with injuries to Chris Paul, Brandon Knight, and Clint Capela. But somehow, the Rockets have managed to turn things around and are back in the thick of things.

Houston is currently 26-19 thanks to their incredible come from behind win over the Lakers in overtime. This puts them in fifth place of the Western Conference. Once again, Harden had a tremendous performance scoring 49 points for his 19th consecutive 30+ point game. With the way Harden is playing, he should be the MVP once again. However, in spite of his performance, there is a concern for whether his play could hurt Houston’s chances at a championship.

Fans are still waiting for the day the Rockets win their third NBA championship ever. It’s still possible that Houston can win it all this year. But the question of how long the window will be open is something that fans wonder about. It’s hard to say whether this is becoming a win-or-bust situation. Yet, with Paul dealing with injuries in spite of his four-year contract extension for $160 million and Harden carrying the franchise now, the workload could be in danger of collapsing by the time the playoffs emerge

It’s pretty crucial that for Houston to remain contenders in the years to come that they need another player to their team. Someone that is willing to take portions of the burden that Harden has applied to himself. Someone who can step up and contribute not to be the star, but a role player who can put himself as a key asset to the franchise. I do believe the solution to the problem is Gordon Hayward.
