Houston Rockets: Three things Kenneth Faried brings to the team
Thing #1: A steady veteran hand in the frontcourt
As with any roster assembly, it’s important that you have a healthy mix of veterans along with young guns to make this roster complete. The veterans are there to provide a sense of leadership, stability at the position and to be a mentor for their junior counterparts.
There are just some people in the world who are naturally-gifted at their craft but for the most part, they had to learn from someone who was experienced at their own craft. That’s what it’s all about and the cycle will continue with Faried, an eight-season vet, being added to the roster.
Outside of Nene Hilario and P.J. Tucker, the Houston Rockets don’t have much in the way of veterans at the PF/C position. The remainder of PF/C’s on this team have a combined average of 1.3 seasons of experience in the NBA. That’s not a good notion when you’re trying to make a case to be a top contender in the West.
Marquese Chriss has been in the league four years but with his injuries and just inconsistency at the pro level, you’d still not want to put him in the veteran category just yet.
Isaiah Hartenstein and Gary Clark are still finding their way as rookies and it’d be unfair to ask them to take on such a load of helping this team reach new heights.
Faried will be the fixer and will help fill the void while Capela is out nursing an injured thumb for the next month or so. I’ll be intrigued to see how Faried could be used in lineup combinations once this team gets back healthy.
When he signs with the Houston Rockets, he’ll be asked to play immediately and he will be the starter in a lot of lineups moving forward, depending on the match up on whether they’ll be playing small ball or just getting the best players out on the hardwood to compete.
Nonetheless, having Faried here will only elevate the Houston Rockets and it’s terrific Daryl Morey orchestrated such a move.
