Houston Astros Rumors: Three players with the most to gain in Spring Training
By T.A. Mock
Full team Spring Training is less than a month away. Let’s take a look at three Houston Astros players who have the most to gain during Spring Training.
After winning the 2017 World Series, the Houston Astros were able to avoid a disappointing season. The 2018 season saw the team put up a franchise record in wins and saw many players have career years while others struggled through injury after injury.
Sure, it would have been nice to see the Astros be the first team to go back-to-back in nearly two decades but that is a nearly impossible task. But, what was seen may have been an even better sign than just winning two championships. Houston proved this year that they’re here to stick around for the long haul. This isn’t a win-and-be-done team. This team is on the verge of a dynasty.
The vast majority of the Houston Astros roster remains intact for a second consecutive season. There is plenty of reason to believe that the roster, as currently constructed, could easily contend for another World Series and beyond. The journey to the 2019 World Series is visible on the horizon as Spring Training is less than a month away.
Many see Spring Training as useless as stats, good or bad, rarely translate to actual major league ball. Guys are getting back into the swing of things, recovering from injuries, or even trying out new things to see if they can improve anywhere in their game.
However, it is also a great time for the management and executive teams to see what they have in players. To see which guys are going to be best suited for internal promotions to fill holes. Guys can earn playing time and even starting jobs in Spring Training. So, let’s take a look at three guys who have the most to gain this Spring.
