Houston Texans Rumors: Five candidates for offensive coordinator
By T.A. Mock
Mike Kafka, QB coach, KC Chiefs
This might be my favorite course of action for the Houston Texans. Mike Kafka, similarly to Waldron, helped pioneer one of the hottest offenses the NFL has ever seen with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2018, he was the quarterback coach for probable MVP, Patrick Mahomes. Prior to that, he was an offensive quality control coach in 2017 and a graduate assistant for his alma mater, Northwestern University, in 2016.

Kafka was a 4th round pick by his current boss, Andy Reid, and the Eagles in 2010 out of Northwestern. He bounced around the NFL for six seasons, 2010-2015, but only saw four games of action, all in 2011. After this, as stated earlier, he turned to coaching and is now on the rise after his two years working with Mahomes.
Kafka only has three years of coaching experience so hiring him to be offensive coordinator would be an extremely risky move but one that comes with immense amounts of potential. Teams around the league have seen success in giving former players a shot at coaching and the Houston Texans could look to follow in that trend.
Kafka helped Mahomes reach heights the NFL has never seen before. Heights that would be hard for anyone else to reach, including Watson. But, if he was able to do that with Mahomes, he could likely accomplish something similar with Watson and a great receiver like Hopkins. This could be a home run hire.
It remains to be seen if the Houston Texans are even looking at adding an offensive coordinator. However, whether they are or not, they should be looking for one. The guys on this are a great start. Which one excites you the most?
