John DeFilippo, former OC, Minnesota Vikings

John DeFilippo‘s star rose rapidly after the Eagles accomplished the unthinkable and won the Super Bowl with Carson Wentz sidelined and Nick Foles at the helm. DeFilippo helped architect the Philly Special that helped them win the championship.

DeFilippo, despite only being 40 years old, has extensive NFL coaching experience. He has been a quarterbacks coach several times, 2007-09 with the Raiders, 2012-14 with the Raiders, and 2016-17 with the Eagles. He was also Mike Pettine’s offensive coordinator with the Browns in 2015 and again this past season with the Vikings.

DeFilippo was tauted as a future head coach, really before his stint with the Vikings even began. It is speculated that he had his sights set on that and wasn’t focused on the Vikings and that is why he failed as their OC and was fired in week 15.

DeFilippo is no longer a head coaching candidate but he still remains a respected offensive mind that just needs another place to prove it. The Houston Texans could be a prime spot for that where he could tutor Watson to further greatness while he reclaims his coaching star.
