Sean Ryan, QB coach, Houston Texans

This stands as the easiest option. Sean Ryan has been around the Houston Texans for the past three seasons. His first, 2016, was spent as the wide receivers coach. He helped Hopkins and Fuller, then a rookie, take great steps in their development.

In 2017, Ryan made the move from wide receivers coach to quarterbacks coach. Under his tutelage, Watson seamlessly transitioned to the NFL and set the football world on fire. Watson and Ryan obviously have developed a great rapport these past two seasons.

Ryan obviously knows the Houston Texans roster better than other candidates could even imagine. He knows the positives. He knows the negatives. He knows where the team can improve and likely has great insight on how to improve them.

He would be the easy hire for Cal McNair and O’Brien. The saying “Go with the devil you know over the devil you don’t” holds true here. The Texans would know what they have in Ryan already. He’s never called plays in his career but in order to help out his head coach, now could be a great time to start.
