Houston Texans Rumors: Five players to target with the 23rd pick
By T.A. Mock
Jawann Taylor, OT, Florida
Jawaan Taylor as an athletic marvel. He stands at 6’5″ and weighs in at 340 lbs. Yet, in spite of that tremendous size, he is incredibly athletic and nimble. He isn’t incredibly explosive but he has very smooth sets in both the run and pass game.
Taylor was consistently steady in both pass protection and his run blocking. He played for a Florida team that had an up and down season, however, Taylor was a steady presence up front that helped stabilize this team.
The Houston Texans desperately need offensive line help. Taylor could hopefully provide a nice, hulking presence for Watson and the Texans for years to come. He may struggle initially but he should have no problem adapting to the NFL. He needs some technique work for his sets but he already has great hands and adjusts well.
Some see Taylor more as a guard in the NFL but a lot of people, including those inside the NFL believe he can stick it at left tackle. However, even if Taylor turned out to only be a right tackle or guard in the NFL, it’ll still a win for a Houston Texans team that just needs competent bodies up front.
Other options: David Edwards (Wisconsin), Yodny Cajuste (WVU)
David Edwards comes from that vaunted Wisconsin pipeline of NFL offensive line prospects. He is in that exact same vein, not incredibly athletic but extremely sound technique-wise and will be a great pro. Yodny Cajuste could be a prospect the Houston Texans fall in love with. He fits their scheme perfectly and is incredibly athletic but there are some concerns about how he’ll adjust to the NFL.
