Houston Texans: In spite of playoff loss, 2018 season still a success
Healthy Defense
The Houston Texans defense today played a big role in the loss. But the secondary is the area of concern. Now that the season’s over, two questions will be will the Texans draft a defensive back? On top of that, will Houston resign Tyrann Mathieu?
All fans need to be pleading with the management to pay the man and draft defensive backs because the team needs them. Kareem Jackson and Johnathan Joseph are talented but are also slated for free agency. However, the Texans need to prepare for the future with new blood.
Still, it’s nice to know that for the first time since 2014, the Texans’ two biggest defensive players in Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt made it through an entire season without any serious injury. Sure, they might’ve had bangs and bruises like everyone else and Clowney did miss one game due to injury, but they never had a serious injury. What did that lead to?
Clowney – 15 GP, 47 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 3 fumble recoveries, 9 sacks
Watt – 16 GP, 61 tackles, 7 forced fumbles, 16 sacks
Man, a few years ago, everyone thought JJ was done for with the season-ending injuries. Well, I guess they were wrong because he played the entire season and looked like he was back to old form. Now he’s a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year although it will be tough to beat Andrew Luck.
As for Clowney, well once again he proved he can be a wrecking ball on defense as he answered his critics who were leaning on his injured past for flaws. Let’s hope the Texans resign him as well. So for one season, the Texans didn’t have any big loss on the defensive line. That still doesn’t mean the defense won’t need help for the foreseeable future.
