0-3 To Playoffs

Well for starters, the Houston Texans had a terrible start going 0-3 in three games that we could’ve won. How many teams started 0-3 and made it to the playoffs? Since 1980, five teams (2% in NFL history) went from 0-3 to playoff bound.

  • 1981 Jets
  • 1982 Buccaneers
  • 1992 Chargers
  • 1995 Lions
  • 1998 Bills

No team in NFL history since 2002, the year when the current division alignment occurred, had achieved such a feat. If the Texans can’t wind up on top in the NFL with a Super Bowl this year, might as well be first in a milestone like that.

How they did it was remarkable. The Texans won nine straight games against the Colts, Cowboys, Bills, Jaguars Dolphins, Broncos, Redskins, Titans, and Browns. While some victories were one-score games, the truth was the Texans brought themselves from the cellar with wins. Sure, they weren’t always pretty wins. But isn’t the job to win games in the NFL?

Of course, the Texans blew every opportunity to secure a first-round bye with losses to the Giants, Colts, and Eagles as the three biggest letdown games of the season. But for a team that went 4-12 last season, the youth will turn into veteran experience.

Add that to injuries to Will Fuller and Demaryius Thomas on the offense, there is a lot to be hopeful for in the future. But even to get from worst to first in the division is a remarkable feat. But, wait a second? Didn’t the Texans come back from 0-2 before?

Yes, the Texans did pull off a regular season comeback to make the playoffs. They were 2-5 at one point in 2015 before they managed to win the AFC South yet again. But the Texans had a quarterback named Brian Hoyer unlike in 2018, with a budding star in Watson.
