Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has had a career season but his latest act benevolence certainly elevates him to the utmost of class. Why?

The Houston Texans will be taking on the Indianapolis Colts in their Wild Card match up tomorrow afternoon but as that’s going on, a family is grieving the loss of a loved one after a tragic drive-by shooting.

Seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes was gunned down by a suspect that’s still at-large this past Sunday while taking a ride with her family in their car.  This happened on east side of Houston and this story has had a lot of national coverage, touching the hearts of many, including Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins, who has a five-year-old daughter, has opted to donate his game check for tomorrow’s game to help pay for her funeral costs and will play in honor of Jazmine.

Here’s what Nuk told us on his Twitter account:

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported that civil rights activist Shaun King has raised more than $100K, Jazmine’s father has raised more than $55K after starting a GoFund me page (click here to give) to which they’ve had more than 2,000 donors.

Wilson also mentioned that the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement calls for participants of the Wild Card game to be paid $29K which will be welcomed addition to the amount of money that has been raised so far.

A sketch of the suspect has been released by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office so if you have a tip on who this horrible man could be, contact them at 713-222-TIPS:

We all love our sports but moments like these transcend those as we all band together for greater good.  My respect for Hopkins was already there but it has increased exponentially since hearing of this news.

In a world that’s full of selfishness and ego-centricism, it’s awesome to know that there are people that have the ultimate act of benevolence on their minds.  Nuk didn’t have to do this but he felt compelled to do so because it certainly hit home to his situation.

I can not imagine what the loss of child would be like but the outpouring support to find the suspect as well as to help pay for the child’s funeral costs certainly will help the Barnes’ family cope with their loss just a little bit easier.

Next. Three New Year's wishes for Houston Sports teams. dark

My condolences go out to all who have been affected by this unfortunate event and thank you Hop for your act of kindness.
