Houston Texans: Three players key to stopping the Colts offense
By T.A. Mock
The Houston Texans have a tough matchup in front of them for the first round of the playoffs. These three guys will be key in slowing the Colts offense.
After starting the season 0-3, the Houston Texans won the AFC South and are hosting a playoff game this Saturday. Had anyone told me that back in September, I would have laughed in their face and called them a liar. As probably many of you would have done as well.
Yet, here we are. The reality of the Texans season is that they overcame a great deficit to start the season to rally, win nine games in a row, and finished the season 11-5. It wasn’t without bumps along the way but the Texans never quit and developed in a true contender.
However, the Texans now face yet another challenge, yet another obstacle to overcome, as they have many times this season. The Texans have to go to battle against the Colts for the third time this season, a team that the Texans have had trouble with this season an over the course of the franchise’s history.
The Houston Texans defense has their work cut out for them battling against Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and the rest of the Colts offense. Luck has regained his status as one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season and Hilton is the perfect go-to weapon for him.
Aside from those two, the Colts sport one of the best young offensive lines in the league. They invested early and often in the draft and it paid off. Quenton Nelson, though only a rookie, is the best of them. They have done a phenomenal job keep Luck upright and in the pocket.
Eric Ebron has also transformed into the receiving force many thought he would be out of college. He had 750 yards for the season and an incredible 13 touchdowns. Beyond him, they also sport a solid young back in Marlon Mack and stable of solid, unheralded receivers that Luck can trust.
Again, the Houston Texans have their work cut out for them. The Colts had a similar rise from ineptitude to greatness that the Texans did. They did on the back of Luck and the rest of the offense. These three Texan defenders are going to be key in stopping the Colts offense and getting to the second round of the playoffs.
