Houston Texans: The surefire formula to beat the Colts in round one
By Neal Sharma
What needs to be done to win on special teams
Helpful Hint #1: Tackle Quickly, don’t focus on style points
The Houston Texans better not allow big returns. Field position can bring huge momentum and confidence to a team if it’s working in a team’s favor. Remember that it’s more important to be in position and end the play quickly rather than attempting that hard burst of speed tackle that can go wrong, though it’s cool to see.
Hilton could return one if he wanted to as he can blaze with speed. If he isn’t in sight, find him right away before it all falls apart.
Helpful Hint #2: Don’t commit penalties & knock down FG’s
Same thing here. Don’t push down the punter or run into the kicker. It’ll be an automatic first down and it can hurt the team greatly. No need for the block in the back calls either, the Texans will need the best field position they can get. General knowledge obviously, but it’s just another dumb way Luck can hurt us.
Secondly, Ka’imi Fairbairn needs to be making his kicks. He has made the most points out of anyone in the NFL so it’s obvious he’s crucial. One missed FG or extra point could come back to haunt us, especially against a time consuming Colts offense. Again, just some obvious knowledge.
Main Ingredient: Win the Field Position Battle
Landing punts inside their 10 along with getting good returns would be a huge confidence booster for this team. It’s true that one good field position can give the Colts all the momentum they need to get going. Honestly, they don’t even need good field position to get going, but it won’t hurt to try to pen them back as far as they can.
The Houston Texans need to be making this game a living hell for them because if they see one glimpse of light they will be right back in this game before we know it. It’s been seen from Luck many times now and could very well be seen again this upcoming Saturday.
