Houston Astros: Top 30 players in franchise history

26. Dallas Keuchel, P, 2012 â 2018
One of the things that comes to mind when thinking of Dallas Keuchelâs six-year tenure as an Astro is âglue.â He has been a phenomenal glue guy for this organization during his time in the major leagues. He saw the team suffer a couple brutal seasons while transitioning from the NL to the AL. He saw the team rise from the worst in the league to the best in the league.
Keuchelâs rise is similar. He was not very good at the start of his career and saw himself rise to be a Cy Young winner in 2015. As far as his career as a whole, heâs somewhere in between the two. He was an ace when the Astros needed it and he was a terrific third wheel, behind Verlander and Gerrit Cole, for the staff this past season.
There is a really good chance that Keuchel has thrown his last in an Astros uniform, though if his market never develops he could come back. Regardless, Keuchel has a spot on this list because of his Cy Young and because of his consistent production over the past four or so seasons.
At his best, Keuchel was one of the top groundball pitchers in the game. Hitters constantly struggled to elevate the ball and make hard contact. If Keuchelâs time as an Astro is truly over, he has earned his spot on this list and could hold one for a long time.
