27. George Springer, OF, 2014 – Present

George Springer was the start of this new era of the Houston Astros. He was a top prospect that had five tools. Now, Jeff Luhnow didn’t pick him but he is the type of player Luhnow loved and he instantly made Springer a focal point of this rebuild.

Springer hasn’t quite fully lived up to all of the hype but he is an incredible player that has been integral to the team these past five years. He established the culture of this Astros team that we know and love. The story of the Astros rise is impossible to write without him.

Springer is the Astros active home runs leader with 121 over his five-year career. He is also second on the Astros active RBI list with 330 behind Jose Altuve. When healthy, Springer is one of the best outfielders in the game plain and simple, he affects the game in an extremely positive manner with his bat, legs, arm, and glove.

He has a couple more years to continue to climb this list and hopefully more beyond that. Springer signed an extension last offseason to bypass two years of arbitration. After this year, he’ll enter into one more year of arbitration before being able to hit the open market prior to the 2021 season.
