Craig Biggio is the great Houston Astros legend, icon, whatever you want to call him. It will take a truly special player to usurp his spot atop this top 30. Biggio’s 20 seasons were all full of greatness in varied ways. Whatever the Astros needed, he provided.
He began his career as a catcher and actually caught Nolan Ryan during his rookie season. He served as the full-time catcher and part-time outfielder for four seasons before transitioning to second base full time.
Biggio had decent pop, excellent contact, and wheels to spare. He appeared in 2,850 games in his 20-year career, collected 3,060 hits, 668 doubles, and seven All-Star game appearances. His 65.5 WAR is second in team history, his 668 doubles are fifth in league history, his 10,876 at-bats are 13th in team history. His 3,060 hits are 25th in the league after getting passed by Ichiro Suzuki and Albert Pujols this past year.
Biggio is the face that comes to mind when thinking of the Houston Astros. He is a Hall of Famer and a bonafide star. He is the greatest baseball icon to grace this great city. He and Bagwell will forever be legends as their iconic second to first throws are enshrined outside Minute Maid Park in statue form.
The Houston Astros have fielded a lot of phenomenal players over the years but these are my top 30. Agree? Disagree? Think I left out someone? Let me know below!
