Houston Astros: Top 30 players in franchise history
By T.A. Mock
6. Jose Altuve, 2B, 2011 – Present
The highest active player on this list is none other than Jose Altuve. He’s already eight years into his Astros career and is signed to remain a member of the Houston Astros all the way through the 2024 season. When his career here is all said and done, he could very well be much higher on this list.
Altuve’s story from Venezuela to the major leagues is a fascinating one. He got sent home after day one of tryouts but kept showing up and that eventually earned him a contract. He blew every expectation out of the water and transformed himself into one of the faces of the franchise and of the entire league.
Altuve already has an MVP to his name and has several batting titles as well. He is simply incredible and joy to watch. He is a fearless hitter who has an incredible penchant for making contact and getting on base. His power and fielding have also improved every year. Altuve is the Astros best current player.
The 2018 playoffs showed off his talent and grit. He was so banged up that he could barely run but he went out there every game and gave it his all and was still one of the Astros best hitters. as far as pure hitters go, Altuve may end up being the best to ever do it as an Astro, quite possibly in the entire league.
