Houston Astros: Top 30 players in franchise history

13. Roy Oswalt, P, 2001 – 2010
Roy Oswalt is one of the most unheralded players on this list to rise to immense stardom. This is exemplified by the fact that he let fans and media members mispronounce his name for a couple of seasons before he finally corrected them.
Oswalt’s career record was 143-82. He won over 20 games twice, struck out over 200 batters twice, and had a career WHIP of 1.196. He also pitched nearly 2,000 innings during his 10-year tenure as an Astro. Oswalt was a bonafide ace that was about as consistent as they come.
Oswalt rarely made a mistake and when he did he was often able to lessen any damage that might incur. He was an exacting pitcher that was nearly flawless every time he stepped on the mound. His quick, compact delivery was consistent every time which helped him pitch at a high level every outing.
One of the greatest moments of his career was in the 2006 playoffs when the Astros were facing the Cardinals in the NLCS. Oswalt pitched game six and had an incredible outing. He threw seven innings, striking out six and only giving up three hits and one run. The Astros went on to win that series and make the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
