Ka’imi Fairbairn, K

Ka’imi Fairbairn leads the NFL in kicking and has the most total points this season. He’s made 34 of his 39 attempts and only missed one of his 35 extra points attempt. Other than that lone extra point miss, all of Fairbairn’s misses have come from beyond 40 yards.

Houston Texans fans don’t like it when the offense has to settle for field goals, but Fairbairn has made sure that the Texans make the most of their offensive trips this season. He has been able to help Texans fans forget kicking woes of the past and brought a steadiness to the position that is unmatched by anyone else in the NFL, let alone the AFC.

Jets kicker Jason Myers was given the initial nod for the AFC, but Fairbairn overtook him for the NFL kicking lead this past weekend. Myers had an off night at the Meadowlands against the Texans and missed two crucial extra points. Meanwhile, Fairbairn was a perfect 5-5 on field goal attempts and nailed a 53-yarder when it mattered.

Fairbairn technically missed his entire rookie season due to injury but the Houston Texans liked him enough to retain him while he healed up. He then took over the kicking job for the 2017-18 season. He had a decent season but struggled at times and only converted on 80% of his kicks.

Fairbairn has simply had an incredible season in a time when his team needed him most. The Texans offense, as big as a bummer as it can be, has stalled out a ton this year. There’s no way they would have ripped off nine wins in a row without him being as successful as he has been.
