Houston Astros: Five things atop the team’s Christmas wish list
By T.A. Mock
The holiday season has arrived and everyone has a list of things they want. Here are the five things that sit atop the Houston Astros Christmas wish list.
The Houston Astros are on the verge of truly becoming an MLB dynasty. The 2017 season saw them win over 100 games for the second time in franchise history, the other being in 1998. They also went on a historic run to win the 2017 World Series over the Dodgers.
Follow up seasons to World Series wins are always precarious. At times, the 2018 Astros seemed worse off than their past selves but the team fought through adversity to set a franchise record 103 wins during the regular season. Unfortunately, they were thwarted in their efforts to get back to the World Series when Boston dispatched them in five games in the ALCS.
The Astros have simply spared no expense to make this team great recently. When Jeff Luhnow and Jim Crane realized this team was finally ready to compete and the young core was starting to peak, they began to add to this team to catapult it to the next level.
Josh Reddick, Charlie Morton, Carlos Beltran, and Brian McCann were in that first round of acquisitions that showed the rest of the league ultracompetitive baseball had arrived in Houston. They’ve continued to add to this time by trading for the likes of Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole. These acquisitions have ushered in an era of baseball unlike any other we’ve seen in Houston.
However, as I mentioned above, this team is only on the verge of becoming a dynasty and a baseball destination. They still have work to do to cement their status in that upper echelon of baseball. These five things on the Houston Astros Christmas wish list should help them take that next step to becoming a true baseball dynasty. Let’s take a look.
