Iman Shumpert, G, Sacramento Kings

This may be the most intriguing option for the Houston Rockets at the present. Iman Shumpert has been widely regarded as one of the wiliest defenders in the league despite his smaller size. He stands at 6’5″ but consistently draws tough assignments on defense, regardless of the opponent’s size.

This has made Shumpert an asset to teams and a player to covet. In today’s NBA, teams can never have too many ace defenders on the court. The Rockets are no exception to this and they probably actually need another defender to deploy on the wing.

The biggest drawback with Shumpert in his career, prior to this season, is that he’s been fairly ineffective on offense and has lacked some serious consistency. One year, he’ll be efficient with the limited opportunities he’s received and in others, he’ll be pretty inefficient.

Fortunately, he’s begun to figure this out in recent years. For this argument’s sake, we’re going to throw out his injury-riddled fourteen games he played in 2017-18 and look at his past two healthy seasons, 2016-17 and this year. For Cleveland in 16-17, he shot 36% from three and so far in 17-18, he’s shooting 41% from three.

That’s some pretty great two-way that the Rockets should definitely target. The problem is the Kings are currently tied with the Rockets for 8th place in the Western Conference. They could be seeing themselves finally on the brink of playoff contention with the end of their rebuild in sight.

If they view themselves in this manner, they could want to keep all of their playable assets in an attempt to sneak into one of the bottom two playoff seeds. Knight and Chriss, however, could be enticing to the Kings and the money works out pretty well. But, as of now, this seems to be the best player the Rockets could add that fits this profile.

The Houston Rockets are currently 11-11 but are finally healthy and have been playing better as of late. If they can continue to stay healthy and add one of these five guys they could start climbing the Western Conference hierarchy once again.
