Houston Rockets Rumors: Five wings to trade for who can improve the team
By T.A. Mock
Justin Holiday, SG, Chicago Bulls
The Houston Rockets just got an audition at what Justin Holiday can provide in their Saturday showdown with the Chicago Bulls. Now, the end result wasn’t the best picture at what he is able to add on the court. He missed a lot of shots and didn’t quite showcase the prowess he’s shown from beyond the arc this season.
All in all, this season has been a phenomenal one, in regards to shooting efficiency, for Holiday. He’s shooting a career high 39% from three this year on nearly eight attempts per game, which is also a career high. This has resulted in a career high in points all the while playing more minutes than he ever has in his career.
Holiday is not an elite defender but he’s better than a lot of three point specialists are and this year, he’s actually made the Bulls better on defense when he’s on the floor. As it stands right now, the Bulls are one point better (DBPM) while Holiday on the court. This basically means he’s slightly better than average defensively, the Rockets saw this on Saturday when he stole the ball four times.
Holiday won’t come in and change the defense, he’s got decent height and length but he is very slight in stature. He only weighs 181 pounds and it’s fairly unreasonable to expect someone that slight to be a worldbeater on the defensive end.
However, Holiday’s offensive production is pretty elite this year and can make up for his lack of elite defense. But, the vast majority of players that have elite capabilities on both ends of the court typically aren’t available for a reasonable price, if at all. So, the fact that Holiday can more than hold his own on defense while having good efficiency and scoring on offense is a major plus.
The money is a little trickier for Holiday as it’ll likely take two smaller contracts to get the money workable. Chriss and Zhou Qi‘s money would work though that’s a lot of talent to give for Holiday.
