Reason #1: What Cervelli brings to the table

Adding Cervelli to the fold for the Houston Astros would pay huge dividends for the team.  Cervelli would truly be one of the most-talented catchers the team has had in some time.  Over the past few seasons, the team has seemed to just patch the position up with either experienced veterans on the decline or capable prospects that have worked their way up through the farm system.

But this is an opportunity for the Houston Astros to actually go and pluck one of the best out of solid situation and put him into an even better situation.

With all things considered, all he does is hit for contact and he’s deft and knowing how to get on base.  Those characteristics are important to being a member of the Houston Astros.  You don’t have to necessarily be a dominant hitter but doing so in a timely manner and getting on base is paramount to making an impact to help this team win baseball games.

His final .259/.378/.431 slash line may not appear to be much to sneeze about but let’s take a look deeper into his numbers.

Cervelli had a solid .809 OPS for 2018 which would be good enough for 8th among catchers in the majors.  His .378 on-base percentage is also good for 3rd in the majors with catchers that have had at least 300 at-bats.

But you don’t think that’s enough?  Let’s take a deeper dive into his relentless zest to be the best.  I urge you to keep on reading.
