Houston Texans: Kliff Kingsbury must be targeted as offensive coordinator
By T.A. Mock
The offense has improved but the potential is far greater
Currently, the Houston Texans offense ranks middle of the road when it comes to their passing attack. Both their 2,421 passing yards and 18 touchdowns through ten games rank 15th in the NFL. The rushing attack is worse with their 1,221 rushing yards through ten games ranks 10th, which is pretty good. However, the four touchdowns and four yards per carry rank 31st and 26th, respectively.
So, even though the Texans have been winning games, the offense needs to massive improvements for this team to take the next step. They have been heavily carried by a great defense. The offense has immense potential but has lagged behind this season.

Deshaun Watson could be a top-three quarterback in the league when he reaches his peak. He’s been good but he is nowhere near where he can be. The team also has several weapons at wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins, who has a legitimate claim to the best receiver in the NFL, and Keke Coutee, who played extremely well under Kingsbury at Tech. There is also Demaryius Thomas if they work out his contract and two young exciting tight ends in Jordan Thomas and Jordan Akins.
Of course, this team isn’t a good offensive coordinator away from being the number one offense in the NFL. They have other issues to work out and positions to fill. However, hiring Kingsbury could go a long way to markedly improving this offense.
Kingsbury would have to adapt to the NFL just like the Houston Texans would have to adapt to him. The potential of this offense with Kingsbury at the helm is mindblowing. The Texans, if they hire him for next season, could legitimately field both a top five defense and offense. O’Brien, Gaine, and Cal McNair need to realize this and make it happen.
The Houston Texans need an offensive coordinator next year, plain and simple. O’Brien running the offense hasn’t been great and the team would be better served to have him just leading the team while some else, like Kingsbury, ran the offense.
