The Houston Texans have had issues with Bill O’Brien calling plays, here’s why Kliff Kingsbury should be their target for offensive coordinator.

The Houston Texans started off the year in an extremely slow and disappointing fashion. They lost the first three games of the season, albeit by a slim margin. However, they have since rebounded in a tremendous fashion winning eight straight, including Monday night’s prime time game against the Titans.

One of the biggest complaints during the three-game skid to start the season was about Bill O’Brien. Many wanted him gone immediately and for the season to be finished under the tutelage of someone else. That was unlikely to happen, though, as he had just inked an extension in the offseason to match him up with General Manager, Brian Gaine’s deal.

So, the team was stuck with him, whether they liked it or not. Fortunately, the players remained faithful and diligent and they, along with O’Brien, rose to the occasion and the team ripped off those eight wins in a row.

There are still flaws with this team, however, in spite of these eight wins in a row. One of the biggest complaints against O’Brien was his stale offense that wasn’t utilizing the vast amount of playmakers it possessed. The play calling appeared predictable and lacked the creativity that has become characteristic of elite NFL offenses. Even though the team has returned to winning ways, this is something that has remained one of the flaws of the Texans.

So, one of the top offseason priorities for the Houston Texans this offseason needs to be finding an offensive coordinator. This coordinator needs to be a top, innovative offensive mind that can bring fresh thoughts and plays into a stale offense.

It just so happens that one of the top offensive minds in college football just became available. That man would be Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was most recently the head coach of his alma mater, Texas Tech. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M and the University of Houston before that.
