Houston Rockets: Three reasons team should start Gary Clark now

Reason #3: The Clark Factor

What if I told you that Clark has what it takes to be a dominant, relied-upon defender for this team night in and out? You’ve seen it, I’ve seen it and now his skill set must be utilized on a regular basis as a starter.

It’s no fluke either.He tends to get up close and personal with his assignments, doesn’t back down from a challenge and is relentless in regard to always trying to make the big play on the defensive front.

This is a characteristic that few professionals have naturally from within as most get the greatest joy

But for Clark, it doesn’t matter, he just wants to do everything he possibly can to help the HoustonRocketsget another “W” in the left column and the effort that we’re seeing is quite inspiring.

Here’s some food for thought — Clark has the fourth-highest defensive rating (109) per 100 possessions on the HoustonRocketsright now. Who’s he behind?Michael Carter-Williams(106),James Harden(107) andChris Paul(107). I don’t count MC-W because he’s not getting quality minutes right now — and rightfully so because he’s shooting 20 percent from three — but the proof is in the pudding.

His defensive production is right on par with the two leaders of this team in Harden and Paul.

Remember when he chased downDarren Collisonand rejected his layup attempt on a fast break late in Sunday’s contest against the Pacers?

That’s what I’m talking about and guys with that kind of effort need to be rewarded with starting spot. That’s not bad for a guy on a two-way contract right?

Clark is averaging4.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists with a shooting line of .340/.306/1.000 in 16.8 minutes per through 13 games this season.
